The cables on the display panel are subject to wearing out from movement.  If the manufacturer's still around see if you can get a new cable assembly.  If they're not I remember a company known as Man In Machine (find it through yahoo) that specializes in repairing display panels.

When he folds open the display for viewing the screen is full of lines and
flickers with each movement of the screen back and forth on the hinges.
