ASUS is notorious for this. Intel numbers the serial-9 like this:
1 3 5 7 9
2 4 6 8
and ASUS does this
1 2 3 4 5
6 7 8 9
[or is the other way around? i'm at work & can't check ;D]
...but usually ASUS has a little pin-block on the corner pin on its connectors.
that means connecting an ASUS connector [incorrectly] on a non-ASUS board can't
happen, but the reverse is possible.
To be fair, actually [i was told] ASUS came-up w/ the serial-9 specification
*before* Intel came-out w/ theirs, but Intel did it different & everybody copied
Intel.
