Please excuse the length of this post. I don't know if this is a minor hiccup or if the fertilizer is in the ventilator. Results of a visit to PCPitStop revealed the following problems:
1. Device or Driver Problem
PCI Bus (Code 2)
Secondary IDE controller (single fifo) (code 29)
Checking the Device Mgr, the following are listed under HD controller:
- Primary IDE controller (single fifo)
- Standard Dual PCI IDE controller
- Standard IDE/ESDI HD controller.
When I checked the "Properties" of each, there were "No conficts", "Device is working properly", etc. IRQ check shows:
IRQ 14 Primary IDE controller (single fifo)
14 Standard Dual PCI IDE controller
15 Standard IDE/ESDI controller .
IRQ's 5 and 12 are free.
I checked a copy of
the Device Mgr (printed when previous 6.4GB drive was installed) and found the following:
IRQ 14 Intel 82371AB PCI Bus Master IDE controller
14 Primary IDE controller (dual fifo)
15 Secondary IDE controller (dual fifo)
15 Intel 82371AB PCI Bus Master IDE controller.
I tried to "Add new hardware", looking for the Intel 82371 driver. No luck.
I "assume" I need the secondary controller. How do I enable it?
I seem to remember Bus mastering as being a good thing to have enabled. Is this assumption valid?
2. PCI Bus (Code 2)
Device Mgr shows 2 PCI Bus entries. Second entry shows the yellow exclamation point. When Device Mgr is viewed "By connection", the first (OK) PCI Bus is shown under "Computer". The second PCI Bus entry (with the yellow exclamation mark) is shown under "Plug and Play BIOS"). What is the purpose of the second bus? Is this related to problem #1?
System:
Pentium 200 MMX
Fujitsu MPD3064AT (6.4GB)HD (2.6GB in use)
Toshiba CD-ROM XM-6102B
Generic FD
64MB RAM
Mobo: AZZA PT-5IT
BIOS: Award Software 4.51PG 8/11/97
Creative Modem Blaster V.90 PCI DI5655
Win95B with IE5
Again, sorry for the tome.
TIA, Bob Deschamps
