Yes, and I have noted the same problem on several other lists recently. It
appears to be sort of a generalized response that relates to adversarial
tactics on any kind of discussions. Personally, I'm primarily interested in
Chomsky's work on linguistics and my current interests in memetics and the
relationship to cognitive sciences. However, being also a political fellow I
follow the other arguments pro and con for a while until I get tired of
them... I posted one of Frank Scott's articles the other day on another list
and apparently aided in getting a violent discussion started between the
"socialistic" or leftist types and the fundamentalist right wing types... (I
copied my post to Frank as he requests) I feel that not enough attention is
being paid to the underprivileged nowadays and worry about the continuing gap
between the very wealthy and the poor.
But I haven't seen anything on linguistics in quite some time. I have a
background the commercial life and health insurance business (retired now), in
General Semantics (Korzybski's work), majored in Clinical Psychology in the
University back in the late 40's, and have lately taken up a sort of
dilettante's position on memetics which has supplied me with new nomenclature
for old and new propositions and ideas.
Cordially,
Bob
