 Hello everyone

Here is some good information about statistic issues related to the people
with disabilities..hope it could be usefull to anyone

 narcise

The purpose of the Disability Statistics Center is to produce and
disseminate statistical information on disability and the status of people
with disabilities in American Society and to establish and monitor
indicators of how conditions are changing over time to meet their health,
 housing, economic and social needs.

The Disability Statistics Center is a national center of research and
training in disability statistics. It receives primary funding from the
National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR). The
Center has ongoing research projects on the cost of disability, employment
and earnings, access to health and long-term care services, housing,
mortality and national statistical indicators on the status of people with
 disabilities in America.

The Center has a staff consisting of Mitchell P. LaPlante, Ph.D., Director,
and Associate Adjunct Professor of Sociology; Edward Yelin, Ph.D., Research
Director, and Professor of Medicine; Wendy Max, Ph.D., Associate Professor
of Economics, Robert Newcomer Ph.D., Chair of the Department of Social and
 Behavioral Sciences, Professor of Sociology; Steve Kaye, Ph.D., Editor;
Douglas Sebesta, Ph.D., Statistician; Laura Trupin, MPH, Research Associate.
Barbara Wenger, MA, is the Center's Information Specialist, Kathleen
Rudovsky is Publications Coordinator; Dianna Stammerjohn is the Center's
Coordinator. Dawson Prater and Robin Mullery are research assistants.

The Center performs statistical analysis of national surveys and other
datasets with attention to basic research and policy issues in the field of
disability. The Center maintains an archive of datasets with chronic
illness, injury, and disability content from the Center for Disease Control
and Prevention including the National Center for Health Statistics, the
Bureau of the Census, the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research, and a
variety of other sources. The Center currently holds files and supporting
documentation on the National Health Interview Survey, the Current
Population Survey, 1990 Census, the National Medical Expenditure Survey,
Survey of Income and Program Participation, Current Population Survey, AIDS
Cost and Services Utilization Survey, Health and Retirement Survey, and many
 others.

The Center operates an information service to assist users with statistical
questions and maintains a library of disability statistics documents and
supporting materials and an on-line bibliographic catalog (now available on
CD-ROM in cooperation with the Trace Center at U. of Wisconsin, Madison). In
addition, the Center conducts a predoctoral fellowship program, a seminar
series, and faculty are actively involved in teaching courses and conducting
training sessions for researchers, policymakers, and consumers.

The Center produces Disability Statistics Reports - a series of detailed
research reports, and Disability Statistics Abstracts a series of short
research briefs which are printed by NIDRR. The Center also maintains a
mailing list of about 14,000 addresses to which reports and newsletters are
 sent.

Each year, the Center conducts a National Disability Statistics and Policy
Forum on a specific subject. The first Forum was on statistical policy, the
second on employment, and the third on housing.
