Here's one idea and a catalog to look up bookholders.  This is a forward
from another list.

Elizabeth,
I have seen pillows that have straps on them to hold books.
If you sew or know someone that sews they are fairly easy to make.
I have also seen them in the Lifeplace catalog. You can order the catalog
from their website, lifeplace.com
