Recently I applied a BIOS flash update and something went
wrong. While waiting for Micron tech support to answer my
request for a new BIOS chip, I came across the web site of Micro
Firmware http://www.microfirmware.com
I was pleased to discover that the Micronics mobo had a BIOS
boot block recovery feature. One of the jumpers (undocumented
in the system manual !!) protected a portion of the BIOS chip.
This bit of code is used to recover the BIOS from a diskette
image.
Micro firmware had a number of files on their ftp site for free
download. When executed these produce the diskette image.
I got the version of the Phoenix BIOS I needed, popped the
diskette in the machine and a minute later had the BIOS replaced
and the system functional.
