I assume when you refer to system configuration you mean
the vendor's proposal. Seems some proposal writers are too
lazy to put SVGA, since I can't imagine non-SVGA parts are
still in large supply in the PC world. Clarify that with
the source.

In short, SVGA refers to resolutions higher than 640x480.
They are all backward compatible with VGA, in my experience,
so they will work with a VGA monitor without modification,
but you will only be able to support 640x480 resolution.
Changing your system to run at a higher resolution usually
means the pc adjusts the frequency of the vertical and
horizontal scan rates, and the VGA monitor will not be
compatible with those frequencies, so you don't get a picture.

We have developed a feature comparison worksheet to analyze several
competing proposals to upgrade some of our Win95 EtherNet workstations. We
intend to continue using our existing monitors. We noticed that some system
configurations have a VGA connection and others have a SVGA connection. At
what point does a video system change from VGA to SVGA? Are the I/O
connections different and incompatible?
