A very good and unexpensive sound card is SoundBlaster 64 PCI
(or Ensoniq AudioPCI 64 - these two are the same).

Don't buy a $20 card. They are probably only SB-Pro compatible (8-bit
sound) and have a lot of other problems as well -- otherwise they wouldn't
be sold for $20.
