A while back I replaced an older motherboard with a different and newer
motherboard like you did. The 9 pin DIN serial port connector from my old
motherboard was the same as the new and the motherboard connector on the
"other" end of the cable was the same, *but* the pins were not wired the
same between the two connectors. I had to find the pin-outs for the
motherboard connector and re-arrange them to go to the right pins in the 9
pin DIN connector to make it work. If you have the cable and connectors
that were supplied with your replacement motherboard, I would recommend
using them instead of your old ones.
