I have a ABIT BE6 II. I had a stable 98SE2 install with this configuration.
300a > 450
256 megs of Micron P 100
CD Reader on EIDE Controller
two ULTRA 66 drives..one on each 66 controller
PCI 1 = Matrox Millennium I
PCI 2 = 10/100 Cnet NIC
ISA = Creative SB AWE64 Value
Then I decided to upgrade to a Diamond TN2 ULTRA and a Adaptec 2906
Controller for my scanner. I installed everything OK..then I noticed that
the sound card wouldn't work....I get a hardware not installed notice or it
plays a wave file in a stop start manner. sound ....no sound...sound ...no
sound..in short equal segments until the wave file finishes. This is some
kind of conflict but device manager doesn't show any conflicts. After
trying different settings I finally started pulling things out until I got
down to no PCI cards...just the AGP and the ISA..
Then I turned off my Com Ports and my parallel port to free up all IRQs and
did a brand NEW install...format / install 98SE2 with nothing but the AGP
and ISA card. The sound blaster is using the 98 SE2 provided
drivers...although I had previously tried it with SB drivers and the TNT
with Diamond drivers but it made no difference...After the new install the
ULTRA was first using vanilla 98 drivers but then I installed the Nivida
reference drivers.... same problem...
I have No PCI cards installed....No com or parallel ports enabled and yet
the ISA SB acts like it has a conflict. but 98 Resource viewer doesn't show
any conflicts.
Anybody seen this ...have a solution ??
Thanks
