Diet and Schizophrenia Recent evidence points to schizophrenia being caused by defects in cell migration: http://www.medscape.com/govmt/NIMH/SchizophreniaBulletin/1997/v23.n03/sb2303 .11.jone/sb2303.11.jone.html http://www.communications.uci.edu/releases/051so96.html http://www.schizophrenia.com/news/causes2.html http://psychiatry.medscape.com/govmt/NIMH/SchizophreniaBulletin/1998/v24.n02 /sb2402.10.weic/sb2402.10.weic-01.html As pointed out in my previous post diet and behaviour which should be read in conjunction with this post, diet can be specifically blamed for a reduction of brain size of some 10% since the agricultural revolution 10,000 years ago. It is reasonable to expect that the same dietary changes could cause the cell migration problems associated with schizophrenia. Thus, I hypothesise a dietary basis for the neural structural defects associated with schizophrenia. Ben Balzer
