>My question is, when you say, your child is doing well off of grains, do you
>mean off wheat gluten, or do you mean off all carbos including brown rice,
>for example?
Moira, Pamela is, of course, off wheat gluten. In the past, she ate
unlimited carbs. Now, I am limiting them by having her eat her protein,
fat, veggies first followed by fruit then the gf grain. We are limiting the
high glycemic veggies and fruits as well.
>Do you think that if somehow (I don't know how) I got him off all carbos for
>a while, that he would improve even more?
That's what some of us are thinking with NO direct evidence--just linking
together theories. However, I did a search in the schizophrenia literature
(where the gf/cf diet originated) and there is a lot of evidence pointing to
GLA and PGE1 deficiencies, AA anomlies, cell membrane anomalies, etc, in
that community. But, I found no references in which a low carb diet was
attempted. I do not have her on a Zone or Neaderthal diet yet...but I am
gradually heading her in that direction. Todd has also found a doctor,
Patricia Kane, who is thinking along these lines too.
>One reason I am suspicious about carbos is that he craves them SOOOO much.
Actually, my NT son is worse than Pamela in that respect <G>. And, his mood
swings are less since he's been on a limited carb diet.
>So I am wondering if I would see yet more improvement if I was able to get
>him off carbs.
That's what I am wondering too!!
>Also, one of my friends said ALL pork is bad, even fresh pork. What does
>the list think? My son loves ground pork.
I have not been on the list long enough to get a feel for that. But, I have
not read any objections to lean meat, unless it's high in arachidonic acid
(and only some folks limit that).
>He also likes tofu, will eat it very willingly. I use it as a protein also.
Pamela too. We're trying to avoid commercial meats due to hormones and
antibiotics so tofu is acceptable in my book (even though not neanderthal).
