Robin, I hate to be right with a subject like this, but I think high schools are
microcosms of adult society, only more ruthless than adult.  Students in high
school have little experience with life problems, and they are mostly looking out
only for themselves.   It takes a brave high schooler to befriend someone whom
the "in" croud has named a pariah because he's "different."
