if you're going to live at the edge of the pond
where a winding path leads along the shore,
don't boast of your trip on the ocean wide
to the friends andneighbors who live next door,
for the self-same sun sets on pond and sea,
and the self-same stars, on a moonless night.
guide the traveler on the winding path,
and the pilot far on an ocean flight!
and the self-same God, in His Mighty Plan,
make a thousand ponds for each storm-swept sea,
and it must pleased Him that little things
should be known of men and remembered be,
for these little things, as they're multipled,
make a mighter world than we'll ever know,
and the pond and the ocean are parts thereof,
and t must have pleased Him that this is so!
