One of my friends led me to a company called Arbico Environmentals.  They
specialize in pest control products that supposedly don't cause harm to the
environment.

I've only ordered a few things from them, but all have worked.  I had a
MAJOR cluster fly problem in my house from flies that hatched and came up
somehow through the windows.  Arbico sold me some beneficial nematode
larvae, which I scattered around the outside base of my house after a rain.
The larvae burrowed into the ground, hatched, reproduced in 2-3 weeks and
ate the fly larvae and pupae.  I only had to use the nematodes once.

Anyway, they use a boric acid/sugar combo, among other things, for ants.
Even have a product to take care of fire ants.
