Hi Susan,

I guess it all depends on what you believe is important - your
values - and (as part of that) what you want your children and
family members to learn through your example.

I know some people whose passionate mission in this life, is to
"spread the word" about a particular diet, or lifestyle, or
religion, etc -- so they are willing to be known as "the crazy ones
who ALWAYS eat such-and-such a diet" or what have you. I think that
if it's done in a _friendly_ way, with the loads of patience
required to answer a lot of questions over and over and over again,
and the willingness to listen to people expressing their feelings
about your "strange" diet, I would think that it's probably
completely possible to make your house, and your eating habits, a
living example of something you feel strongly about.

On the other hand, if it is MORE important to you to make people
feel comfortable, welcome and unthreatened when they come into "your
sphere," if this is of higher value to you than teaching people
something important about health; well then I'd imagine that you'd
probably do better to just let them bring to your parties whichever
foods they want, and eat what they want, and keep your own dietary
concerns and restrictions quietly to yourself.

In other words, it's all a matter of who you are, what you value,
and what your life is "about." (to get a little "philosophical"
here.)

In my opinion, there really is no right or wrong answer about how to
handle this.

Love Liza
