I am new to the list and have been following the discussions with interest.
A question please. Does it make any difference where one's ancestor's came
from?
A friend is a Russian Jew and craves beef.
My family was Norse/Scottish/Commanche and I crave salmon, love smoked fatty salmon,
salmon eggs and seaweed.
I had an auto immune disorder and the symptoms have not reappeared for several
years after I moved to a cool, coastal climate and ate more fish, seaweed --
initially a diet for "hot liver" or "yin" cooking which I took from a Chinese
medicine cookbook which seemed to fit with my cravings.
My mother's family is part Commanche. She and her grandmother are obese and
have diabetes. I have read that the diabetic symptoms will reduce when Natives
return to their traditional diet.
I have a tiny familiarity with diet of the Inuit from Labrador and know they eat
raw seal, caribou, when they go North, leave their store bought food at home and
follow more traditional ways. Raw livers are extracted first and given to the
eldest. Not all follow this, of course, but some rightly feel they get sick if they
depart from their native diet.
Thanks.
Lynda
