Okay, one last thing since I know this isn't the superslow list.
The reason superslow is the superior method of high intensity training:
1) it is totally safe. No balistic movements, in machines, means even your
grandma can do it. In fact, it was developed out of research on elderly,
osteoporosis women.
2) no momentum. Because you move slowly, there is no momentum involved,
again eliminating chance of injury
3) no momentum. You can keep records of your progress and by using the
same, momentumless protocol, they will be accurate for constant building
which you will do for all your life til the day you die. The weight you use
is effected by speed/momentum. So you must go the same slow protocol each
time to really know if you've made gains or not.
4) One set to failure. The object is to make the maximum muscular inroad in
the least amount of time--efficiency (and machines with good resistence
curves will even increase this). Called time under load, once a muscle is
thoroughly fatigued, you move to the next exercise. If you take about 2 min.
per exercise and do 5 exercises, how long does that take? And then you get
to rest for a week or so. And still you get in great shape.
Its like eating Paleo. You can eat all you want, and maintain a lean body.
Usually people start on super slow going twice a week, but that is too much
after you learn the machines. Many superslow trainers are now only seeing
clients once every 10-14 days, even from the start. I go on my own, but it
wouldn't hurt to start at a clinic and then learn the protocol well before
moving to your own gym.
