The trick to avoiding these viruses/worms is not to open the emails to which they are attached or any suspicious emails for that matter if Microsoft Outlook Express is your mail program. Otherwise, open the email but do not use the download feature. If you are not sure about a particular email, do not download it.
The problem here is with the Microsoft Operating System and not the viruses or worms. Hackers have successfuly exploited glitches in Microsoft's OS. But older Operating Systems, like UNIX, though less user friendly, are pretty much immune to pesky these pesky bugs. I hope that with a breakup impending, Microsoft will be able to dominate the OS market less and, as a result, allow other Operatng Systems a better market share.
