Hi List mates,
I asked about bread makers a few days ago. I was given a good recipe
for bread using one. My old machine will not let me program it to only
rise once. I was finding the bread rose nicely the first time but only
1/2 as much the second. I had heard about the Welbuilt bread maker but
had been unable to find it.

In summary.......and thanks to those who replied I discovered that
Welbuilt is going out of business. There are still some machines out
there for sale ...and in some cases quite cheap. I would worry about a
warranty if the company is going out of business but at this price who
cares if it dies after a few years. I have a quote from Judy :

"Today, while opening the mail, I saw an ad for a Welbuilt 2-lb.
breadmaker in a Proffitts sale book. Apparently, the sale is called
"Chairman's Choice Sale". In my area (Cleveland,Tn.) the sale is from
Oct. 20 - Oct. 24. The breadmaker is on sale for $39.99, regularly
$69.99. The article says the it bakes a 2-lb loaf in under an hour.
Features viewing window and 7 menu features. After Chairman's Choice
Days: $49.99"

Then I have another make........a quote from Daivd

"Karin bought a Prima (one of the cheaper brands), which
works brilliantly with our flour.
They have a web site at http://www.prima-international.com/
They have been incredibly helpful and we recommend them."

I also got quite a few recommendations for the Regal brand available
at Walmart. Here is a quote from Charles:
"Afterward went out and bought the Kitchen Pro by Regal at the local
Walmart, (On sale!) got it for $70 US here. And it is much simpler and
easier to run with, especially with ready-packaged mixes. (Gluten-free
Pantry, etc.) "

  And then from Barbara
" I settled on the new Regal Pro available here at Walmart for about
$70. It works great for our breads -- if you can find a good recipe
that is. There is a section in the book that came with the bread maker
on gluten free breads and I tried the raisin bread

-- it is wonderful -- you almost can't tell it from real bread. "

I also got a few tips on how to continue using my unprogrammable
breadmaker.

Pat suggested:
"Remove the stirring bar at the bottom after the first rising. Just
reach through the batter with a pair of tongs. It works for me."

Dot's idea:
"When you are going to make your bread allow the machine to go through the
entire first cycle empty, then just as the second cycle starts add the
ingredients for your bread and allow it go through one mixing or kneading
and just the one rising."

I hope some of this is helpful. For those of you living in Canada like
myself I have yet to check Walmart here for the availability of the
Regal Pro. I am hopeful. Thanks again for the help. I do have 2 recipes
for bread made in a bread machine if any one wants one or both.. For now
I think I will try putting in the ingredients after the first
cycle.......Dot's idea ...until I can get my hands on a Regal. Thanks
again Dianne in BC
