  SDRAM is available only in DIMMs, and runs at 3.3v.  EDO RAM is available
in DIMMs or SIMMs; most -- at least the SIMM form and possibly ALL -- runs at
5v.
  While the latest motherboards provide only DIMM sockets (and most support
only SDRAM), there is still a market for boards with both SIMM and DIMM
sockets, and which allow users to retain their existing EDO RAM.
  Many of these latter boards also support SDRAM.  VERY FEW, though, can
properly handle a mix of SDRAM and EDO installed at the same time.

  Unless your motherboard manual very clearly states that it supports such a
mixed configuration, you should assume that it will work with SDRAM *or* EDO,
but not both at once.
