hello,

i don't use a ppp net connection much myself, but for those who do, t c i
has a short term promotion deal you might find helpful. they will skip
the installation, usually $125 as i recall, and give you a couple of free
months if you sign up before aug 31. the monthly rate is $35.95. a cable
modem is not in fact a modem, it is a network card which uses the normal
tv cable to hook into the inter net; so you will need a free slot. it is
up to 100 times faster then a 56k modem, and best of all, it is always
online, just like your tv always has instant access. i live in pittsburgh
and don't know how this t c i offer translates into other parts of the
country. also, they called me to offer it because i had inquired before,
so they might not offer it if you just call up; so ask for it if they
don't offer. my son and i tried it out at a local compusa store and he was
very impressed with the loading of graphics, very very fast. not caring
about such, i'm going to stick with occasional ppp connection and my usual
very satisfied experience using lynx in a shell account. with the latter,
i get to use the isp's t3 line, also very very fast.

dan
