AAs the newly elected VIPACE Program Cordinator I'd like to extend my
warmest greetings and the best for a Happy New Year. I lookforward to the
challenges ahead in 1999.
The next VIPACE that is, Visually Impaired Pittsburgh Area Computer
Enthusiasts meeting will take place on Friday February 19, 1999 from 6:00
until 8:00 p.m. Room 609 3959 Pitt Student Union in Oakland.
Ajenda:
Guest speaker will be Margaret Schmitt, Computer Helpdesk personel from
the Electronic Information Network.
Margaret will discuss her work duties, software she uses to access
computers on the job as a blind person, her comparisons of screen
enlargement software packages.
Margaret will also cover the recent EIN Assistive Technology Advisory
Committee meeting and the future of access to information at city and
county libraries.

Upon our guest speakers conclusion there will be a midway break to discuss
VIPACE news.
Following VIPACE news time permitting there will be a 17 minute cassette
demonstration of Easy Barcode Reader, a DOS based computer program which
allows one to read barcode lables on anything from cans to clothes.
The VIPACE Program Cordinator and officers would like to request that
while
the
meeting is in session that members take their conversations elsware out of
respect for guest speakers and so the meeting can move along in an orderly
fashon.
