It sounds as if your connector on the back of the sound card is not
connecting properly with the out put jacks you are plugging into the
card.  You could look on the card and see if it is not a sealed jack
on the card and possibly pry the small spring connector over a small
bit.  If it is sealed...  and you cannot pry it over from the jack opening,
I think you probably will need a new sound card.

Just on the off change that jiggling the cord caused it to seat better
in the motherboard slot, try moving the card to a different motherboard
slot and see if that cures your problem.  But, this one is probably
a long shot.
