 you might try selecting "disable fast shutdown" in win98
msconfig. Type "misconfig" (without quotes) in the run dialog box.
Under the General tab select "advanced" button.
The "Disable fast shutdown" check box is near the bottom.
 I have done this on a couple of recent builds of mine
and it seems to work.
