Susan,
A parallel port flat bed scanner can daisy chain to your printer. The PC
is connected to the scanner and the scanner is connected to the printer.
You should be able to add the scanner with very little problem.
On my system, I have a zip drive, scanner and printer all running on a
single port. and it all runs just fine.
BUT, I would suggest you start looking at and planning for the new USB
devices.
