I just purcahsed a Promise EIDE card with onboard
BIOS in the hopes of adding LBA to an old 486
computer. When the system boots up it shows that LBA
is initialized and operating, however it doesn't seem
to be. I have two drives in the system, both more than
the 504MB limit (one is 600MB, the other 850MB). FDISK
still only sees 504MB with the standard settings. I
then tried halving the cylinders and doubling the
heads, that gives me the correct size in FDISK but on
formating I get a ton of bad sectors. Anybody have any
ideas? Is this even possible. Is my thinking all wrong
on what the purpose of this card is? Thanks for any
info. TTYL
