Thank you Jun:
This URL was provided me on another list, which lead me to the steps
noted below:
Reported Memory Does Not Match Amount of Installed Memory
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q146/9/12.asp
Article ID: Q146912
Following the provision for step-by-step startup and thereby disabling
Config.Sys and Autoexec.bat, the full 128 mb were reported in Systems
Properties Window. Have since narrowed this down the first line of
config.sys which invoked Himem.sys. Semi-colon-ed this out and 128 mb now
reported with both Config.sys and Autoexec.bat active. This version of
Config.sys was directly in the C:drive root directory. Have found other
versions of both files in other places, but don't just where they all came
from, or whether being used or not. Am in process of running down things
which may be superfluous, but don't know any quick way to be sure I'm not
affecting something I need. So far no adverse repercussions . Maybe one of
the "Clean House" type programs is inorder.
As mentioned previously, specs on my board say it accommodates 256 megs, I
have had 128 on since I bought it in '96 My brd has 4 72-pin. 5 v SIMM
sockets. I have 4 32mb chips.
I greatly appreciate your assistance, and would welcome any other good ideas
for streamlining my system.
Bob Decker
