Its more a MB question then L2 cache. Some boards back in the 486 days ran
just as fast without L2 as those that had it. Having write-back CPU cache was
more important. In fact, before the Pentiums came about L2 was no more than
latency 1, board speed, "mirror" of the next addresses to be found in regular
memory.
Personally I'd try to round up a AMD 486DX5-133 (a.k.a. 586-133p75). It
would make up for any lack in L2...
