Hi All. About ten years ago, before paleo, I had a small garden here in
New Jersey. While working in it I moved a board and found a nest of
large black ants. At that time I did not know the dangers of pesticides
and sprayed the ants with household "raid". I noticed wisps of smoke
coming from the ants. Looking closely it seemed that when the pesticide
hit an ant it would start smoking! Later I found out that it was the
formic acid in the ant reacting with the chemicals in the spray. Now
I'm certainly no expert in nutrition, but it seems to me that eating
ants that explode is not something I would want to do. This effect did
not happen to any other insect I could find.....BTW, love the list and
thank you to all that contribute. It has been an education for me.
