VOICE AND EARS TECHNOLOGY DEMONSTRATION A TOTAL SUCCESS AT HEALTHCARE
USA SHOW.
(Santa Ana, California) Problems relating to interpreters especially
the
high cost of it's use in effective communications has made it extremely
difficult for people with hearing disabilities to have decent health
care.
Orange County Deaf Advocacy Center takes leadership in addressing the
primary concern brought up by many health care providers, the costs of
interpreting services has made it difficult for health care
professionals
to have positive relations with their patients with hearing
disabilities.
Our partnership with Modern Deaf Communication company, has enabled us
to
offer a much cheaper alternative to the use of interpreters. Our Voice
and Ears Technology has brought a lot of good comments from health care
professionals who tried the equipment at our booth at the HealthCare USA
show in San Diego last weekend. Voice and Ears Technology is a
promising
solution to problems faced by people with hearing disabilities that rely
on communication services. Voice and Ears technology involves the use of
equipment already familiar to almost everyone.
Interpreters could be replaced by "Transliteration Technicians" who will
set up the equipment and ensure effective communication between people
with hearing disabilities and either health care professionals,
attorneys,
and other service providers that rely on communication. The cost of the
Voice and Ears Technology is a small fraction of what most interpreting
agencies demand. This makes it easier for people to utilize effective
communication and improve relations between people with hearing
disabilities.
We are now developing the Voice and Ears Technology transliteration
program and we are expected to run this new transliteration program
sometime in the summer of 2000.
Orange County Deaf Advocacy Center is a non-profit 501(c)3 dedicated
to helping people with hearing disabilities live a safe, healthy, and
productive lifestyles.
Orange County Deaf Advocacy Center has been in active service to people
in Orange County since November 1998 and have responded to over 1,000
inquiries and requests for information, support, resources, and
referrals.
Our board entirely consists of people with disabilities.
