Dr. Kunene,
We met briefly some months ago at a performance by Ananse and such and such
outside the children's museum. I also spoke to you even earlier on the
phone about an oral tradition project I am hoping to develop between
UW-Madison and the Ministry of Basic Education and Culture in Namibia. My
program is called "Topola" cultural exchange program that is a facilitating
agent for the Namibia Oral Tradition Project (NOTP/NBC-TV in Windhoek,
Namibia). Jim Delanty (African Studies) provided a letter supporting the
idea of having a UW-Madison team (students, faculty) work with Namibia in
further oral tradition collection and analyses of archived historical and
oral documents in Windhoek. I am furvently hoping this will come to
fruition.
My question to you now, Dr. Kunene, is "how do you feel about being a black
African in the apartheid situation most of sub-Saharan Africa has been
forced to endure over the centuries?" I don't want this in 25 words or
less, and I don't want your thoughts in the form of a thesis. I want to
know. That's all.
It would be nice to meet with you at some unassuming venue to discuss what
I am asking of you, plus you will have the opportunity to question me all
you want! Please, can we arrange a time to meet? You may email me at my
wife's address (Helen Meyer). Thank you, and I hope I am not being too
offensive.

>>Dear friends,
>>Time to get started with the poetry reading group. Sorry about the delay,
>>and thanks for your patience. While pondering the formation of a group

>>what we shall call ourselves.
>>
>>All those intrested in joining The Potluck Poetry Group kindly let me know
>>by email, and then I'll suggest a date and a venue for our first meeting.
>>
>>I think this is going to be a great experience, and I look foward to it
>>very much.

>>Best wishes.
