Try things. As with all things computer related, YOU are the one that
has to use it and deal with the results. I play high performance MPEG and
AVI files to check speeds, and to see if the card (or the system) can keep up.
(Or you can play games, --- I have none...)
Every Win95/(8?) CD "has" had files like that on it "for testing".
As far as color: "Color Palette" (or number of colors), pick whatever looks good...
If a real flower looks like a cartoon, you need more colors...
(You can't make a cartoon into a flower thought, *grin*)
Some programs "need" 800*600 to give you enough space to work.
I like 1024*768 for more space, but things in general get smaller.
Best thing is, if your video card software supports it, learn how to change
things quickly... Win95 had a utility you could "add in" that would only
cause limited problems, sometimes -- Called quickres.exe
It might have been one of the original "powertoys" from the MS shell group...
It is one of the "perennial favorites", so I am sure it is still around...
Be careful if you have Win98, as the video subsystems changed a lot...
Check the specs. of things you add to see if they are "OK" for Win98...
Now the disclaimer part. Check the specs of ANYTHING you add
to your system... The system may not "support" it...
If you "destroy" your video, go into Safemode, and reset it back to what you
had before you started... (It happens...)
