Betty,

        The type of "molly coddling" you described is stringently
restricted now in EMS services due primarily due to litigious situations
resulting from personnel being less than fit for duty. I have to say that
the Memmphis Fire Department is way ahead of the Police Department here,
even though a good friend is interim Police Director(Chief). The Director
of Fire Services took my class on Alcohol and Drug Services. I was really
impressed. Most guys in that position, let you know immediately hos
important they are. This guy set through
the whole semester and I didn't know who he was until the last week of
class. True humility!!! I was impressed to say the least.
