Web Accessibility Outreach Coordinator (MIT Job Number 99-0220R)

Description: Laboratory for Computer Science, to promote Web accessibility for
people with disabilities as part of the World Wide Web Consortium. Will
coordinate development of the Web Accessibility Initiative's (WAI)
education and
outreach deliverables under supervision of WAI Domain Leader; serve as staff
contact to the Education and Outreach Working Group; coordinate production of
promotion, reference, demonstration, and training materials; coordinate
training
events; give presentations on Web accessibility; promote implementation of Web
Content Accessibility Guidelines by Web designers and managers; and maintain
WAI Web site including resources and references sections.
Qualifications: knowledge of HTML and Web accessibility issues and at least
three years' experience with project and event management. Knowledge of CSS,
SMIL, and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines preferred. Strong Web design
skills and experience desired, as is familiarity with the Web industry.
Excellent
communication skills required. Must be free to travel.
Web Accessibility Tools Engineer (MIT Job Number 99-0221R)

Description: Laboratory for Computer Science, to build conversion utilities
for
repair of inaccessible web sites as part of the World Wide Web Consortium.
Will
serve as the Web Accessibility Initiative's (WAI) staff contact to the WAI
Evaluation and Repair Tools Working Group; develop tool prototypes based on
requirements from working group; assist in coordinating integration of
externally-developed accessibility tools into toolkit; identify research
projects
which can lead to proxy or conversion tools supporting accessibility; and
collaborate with researchers to explain accessibility requirements and build
research concepts into accessibility utilities.
Qualifications: Programming experience in Web-based utilities and at least two
years' experience in collaborative development projects. Programming
experience
in Java, CGI, perl, and C/C++ preferred. Familiarity with Web-related research
and development and research on accessible technology design a plus. Must be
free to travel.
