Hi -
I have a friend who just purchased a Sony Pentium III computer from CompUSA.
As was to be expected, they gave him the hard sell to purchase an extended
warranty for it.
I don't know the model number, but apparently this system is a miniature
desktop that uses laptop technology to reduce its size (including the use of
an LCD screen). As a result, I would guess that many/most of its components
are of proprietary design. I generally wouldn't be inclined to recommend an
extended warranty for a system that uses generic components, but in this
situation, I'm unsure.
I would appreciate an comments from the list members as to whether the
extended warranty would be worthwhile insurance in a situation like this.
They want $400+ for a 5-year extended warranty. I saw quite a few negative
posts about CompUSA and their warranty service in a DejaNews search, so that
will be a consideration as well.
Thanks,
Barry
