Almost nothing can beat an online UPS for that sort of situation. I
can't think of anything else off hand that will eliminate all the problems
you describe. However since cost is an issue an online UPS might not be
feasible (they do tend to be on the expensive side). A surge protector won't
help since surges aren't the problem, brown out conditions are. A switching
UPS will help in many cases but it may not catch the quicker brown out
conditions. Doesn't hurt to try though. The UPS I own is of the switching
type and has never let me down, it has caught all blackouts and brownouts
without a hitch, in fact I suffered three brownouts while installing windows
yesterday! :) TTYL
