Hello, Friends.

                        Very, very good news!

I am pleased to inform you that the African Association of Madison, Inc has
received the following grants and other financial contributions towards the
planning and implementation of Madison's AFRICA FEST '99 scheduled for
Saturday, August 28, 1999::

(1)  $5,000.00 from .Dane County Cultural Affairs Commission (see May 23,
       1999 edition of Wisconsin State Journal);

(2)  $2,000.00 from Evjue Foundation (see Capital Times May 27, 1999
       edition);

(3)  $1,500.00 in kind from the UW-Madison's African Studies Department;
        and

(4).  $100.00 from the Madison Pentecostal Assembly Church

We are very grateful for these applausible contributions including
individual
donations that are beginning to come in as well.  The goal for AFRICA FEST
'99 is $28,500.00 and with your help and the help of those you know, the
festival will be held in grand style.

We will keep you updated as we progress with plans including receipt of
additional funds.  Please stay tuned.

Meanwhile, as a friendly reminder, if you know any activities such as a
dance, a song, a craft, etc., that you would like to demonstrate or display
at the
AFRICA FEST '99, please let us know.  Rehearsals are currently being planned
for Saturdays at the University United Methodist Church, 1127 university
Avenue,
Madison.

Also, if you know of any good African cultural groups or performers/artists
in the
Midwest region, please let us know now because the countdown to the show
time
is moving very rapidly.
