Hello to all.
I am building a new system for a customer that has the following:
Tekram slot 1 motheroboard / intel chipset
Award 4.5 bios
Celeron 433 ppga in an adapter card to fit the slot1
128 mb pc100 SDRAM
Western digital 13+ GB HDD
Win98
SIIG sound card
etc..
The problem with this machine is simple but very confusing. In DOS mode, it
does not recognize that the HDD exists.
If I boot to win98 and use a DOS window, the C drive is visible. If I boot
to the startup menu and select dos prompt, the C drive is visible. If I use
the shutdown menu and select restart in DOS mode, the machine exits windows,
goes to a blank screen with a flashing cursor [no prompt] and sits there.
Pressing any key reboots the computer normally to Windows.
If I boot the computer from a DOS 6.22 disk, then attempt to access the C
drive, it tells me that there is not C,D,E or any other drive.
I have tried to swap other drives [got an old 540 mb here] with the same
results.
My guess is that it is in the BIOS somehow, but after looking over the
choices, I haven't a clue what in the BIOS might cause this problem.
Anyone have a suggestion as to how to correct this?
TIA
Mike Buraczewski
