Philippe,
I agree, a UPS is not cheap (I've seen them as low as $100) and they are
worth it. Whatever the cost, it is a lot cheaper than the potential time
wasted to fix software/hardware problems that could be caused by power
dying at an inopportune time.
At the very least users should have a surge suppressor. I have seen many
people spend $2000+ for a system and then not protect it with a $60 surge
suppressor.
