My brother works at the University of New Brunswick Canada

You are expected to use the computer whether you own it or not. They of
course have many "computer rooms" . My niece for many years was a computer
room "monitor". His particular gripe is the non use of "spellcheck" when it
comes time to read papers.

In their case the academic version of Corel is available for a song.
Everyone is expected to use it for consistency.

In any case make sure the college kid knows enough to back up her work at
very regular intervals. When you are working on a paper each page as done
needs to be backed up.

We have seen power failures cause some serious grief

Rick
