ALVA to Focus Development on Windows XP
June 1st 2001 - ALVA, B.V., the leading maker of assistive technology for
the visually impaired, announced today that the company will devote its
Windows development resources to Microsoft Windows XP and discontinue the
development of outSPOKEN World1 for Windows 2000. outSPOKEN is the popular
screen reader marketed by ALVA since 1996.
outSPOKEN for Windows Me/98/95 is now available in 13 languages, including
Japanese, and has growing market share throughout the world. 'outSPOKEN has
been well-received by both Windows and Macintosh users,' said Jaap Breider,
president of ALVA. 'Microsoft has been strongly promoting the release of
Windows XP and is supporting screen reader developers to migrate to this new
operating system. ALVA determined the best way to serve the long-term
interests of our customers is to focus on the opportunities that Windows XP
will bring.'
ALVA will continue to develop, distribute and support software for Macintosh
computers.
With regard to its highly innovative braille displays, ALVA's ABT3, Delphi
MultiMedia and Satellite series continue to offer the industry's highest
compatibility with all popular screen readers. This has helped ALVA to
better understand end-users' expectations and needs with regard to the
interaction between screen reader software and braille displays. Ongoing
user feedback is one of the fundamental reasons for ALVA's leadership in
this industry and has resulted in high market shares all over the world.
