Advocates Seek Better Web Access for the Blind
Advocates for the disabled say that what seems like a natural marriage
between the emerging online shopping industry and blind consumers often
breaks down. Most web sites just aren't as user-friendly as they might
be. It's still unclear whether thousands of web sites are in violation
of the federal Americans with Disabilities Act. But some web designers
are now working to create sites that invite access by people who can't
see well enough to point and click with a standard computer mouse. One
technique is to use adaptive software that reads text aloud. Listen to
