Below is an update from Woody in Orlando about the organizing that has
gone on to start the blind community web share program. He is still
seeking support and and intangible advice and assistance. Please share
your organizing efforts and success stories here on vicug-l.

A quick note on Our Progress at Orlando Blind Community Web Share
Program.

1. The Web Pages have been moved to HTTP://blindsupport.bizland.com which
is a free business web site that supports FrontPage 2000.

2. We have now received confirmation from all 12 board members for the
board of directors, and now have a powerful board comprised of strong
"blind" individuals from around the area.

3. We have started to develop a training curriculum for teacher beginning
computer skill, jaws, zoom text, and web access for visually impaired using
jaws or zoom text, in our area.

4. We are communicating with several businesses in our area where people and
their service animals have been made to feel less than welcome.

5. We are working with the city of Orlando to assist them in developing a
web presence that will deliver information for Special Assistance visitors
to our area.

6. We are looking to set up a mediation consultant to assist in ADA issues.

and many other projects, but these are our highest priority.

Anyone interested in offering assistance in these area's may contact us at

The web pages are still very under construction but feel free to take a look

A SPECIAL NEED

In an effort to make these pages easy to read for all, they have been set to
work with jaws. However, I was a bit narrow sighted (pun intended since I
have RP) when I set the colors for the pages to yellow text on a blue
background. This color scheme works great for me and others who find a
negative color scheme best. Unfortunately this doesn't work at all for
others who need a positive color scheme (such as black text on white
background). I could really use some help with the H T M L code to make
various color schemes selectable when a person goes to the pages. Since the
pages are intended for information for the newly impaired and beginner users
of the web, We need to set it up as easy for the user as possible.
ANYONE with HTML experience that thinks they can offer some help in this
area, PLEASE contact me AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

That's it for now, wish us luck and send comments and suggestions to
