On tuesday July 20 at 8:00 eastern time and 5:00 Pacific Mike Lauf's
handy Talk program will discuss visually impaired computer user
groups.  You can listen live or listen to the archived program later
in the week.  In addition to myself, other members of Digit-Eyes: The
chicago Blind computer User Network will be participating.  Dave
Porter, Anna byrne, and Tom Jones are planning on joining in.  Please
call into the program with your questions.  Below are the questions
Mike lauf will be asking the guests.

Vicki Vaughan of Pittsburgh.

Here are the questions that will be asked by the show's host Michael Lauf.

1.  Tell us about yourself and the activities of your user group.

2.  What are some of your short term and long term goals?

3.  What types of issues do you address and which issues do you stay away
from?

4.  Describe the typical agenda for a meeting.

5.  Do any of you work to make your community libraries accessable via
screen reading and/or screen enlargement software?

6.  Describe the average age and skill level of your users.  For example,
what percentage still use dos or don't even have a computer?

7.  Do any of you teach your members computer skills?

8.  Do you have public speakers and product demonstrations?

9.  Do you have monthly or annual dues?  If so, how much do members pay?

10.  Do any of you address community issues like publicc transportation or
access to city services?

11.  Do any of you operate as a 501C3?

12.  What means do you use to recruit new members; word of mouth, telephone,
local media etc.?

13.  What are you doing to address issues related to the year 2000?

14.  What are some reasons former members give for no longer participating?

15.  What tips would you give to someone wanting to start a user group in
another city?

16.  Do any of you have web sites for your members or the general public to
learn more?

17.  Are there any email lists or newsgroups for leaders to share ideas and
information?

18.  Do any of you record your meetings and plan to offer them online via
Realaudio or other format?

19.  Give phone number and/or email address where persons can reach you for
more information.

20.  One minute of final thoughts from each participant.
