Great points here.

I was starting to think that this might be a pretty good idea until I read
that they are shooting for maybe light perception as a goal.  As a person
who had sight for 7 years and is now a total, light perception isn't going
to change my life very much.  Even vague shapes would be more of a
hindrence than a help.

Having said all that, this is a step, the first step of many.  Hopefully,
one day they will be able to have an implant that works at least as well
as the human eye.  And, if it is within my lifetime, count me in. :-)
