Hi,

I know for certain that Java works in Netscape and Internet Explorer.

Java in and of itself isn't a problem for screen readers. Like any other
programming language or technology, it depends how it is used. If there's
text available then the screen reader is likely to work. However, if all
they create is images then you'll have trouble.

As an example, Yahoo.com has several online games written in Java. You can
read the bulk of the text of these games. Unfortunately, when it comes to
actually playing the games there are some images used that don't get
recognized by a screen reader.

What I've noticed in many online sites (such isn't the case with the
homegrocer.com site) is that there's a lot happening so keeping up with a
screen reader can be a challenge. If three or four sections of the screen
are scrolling or changing rapidly it can be a lot to track.
