Denise,
A beautiful statement and a harsh reality. There does appear to be more
opportunity for children today than when we were children. On the other
hand, our parents did not have our disabilities as well as the vagaries of
managed care, specialists, etc. to deal with. Much more *is* available, but
is hard to find. As Kyle said, he and I had a "glancing blow" from CP,
compared to others on this list. I always felt bad for my mom when she'd
come of with these "pie in
sky" polyanna statements, because I knew what was "out there" much better
than she did. She was seldom the brunt of cruel remarks and laughter. But
that was long ago, now the demons I fight are mostly between my ears(my
mind).
