These may not be the same messages as the original poster, but since I have
an HP 710C (basically the same as the 712C), and a laptop networked (NETBEUI)
to my main system where the printer is attached, I tried the obvious of
adding a new printer, specifying it as a network printer (yes, it is ahred,
and I can see it in Network Neighborhood, etc). The setup appeared to go
properly, the driver files were copied from the host system to the laptop
and it said it was added successfully, but when I try to print (even just
printing a test page), it appears to go OK, then a dialog box appears
saying "PRINTER ERROR". "The computer has lost connection with the printer."
"Cancel printing, then turn the printer off then on, then try printing again."
This dialog appears to be an HP software dialog box. I then get a more
windows looking dialog box saying "There was an error writing to
\\Cypress\hp for the printer (HP DeskJet 710C series). You file waiting to
be printed was deleted.
I think the HP driver doesn't really support printing remotely over a network,
at least not by default. Maybe some tweaking has to be done. I will play with
it a bit.
